Mostly the car runs perfect the only issue I have is if the car is sitting any length of time I get air in the system. The annoying thing is that it does not happen all the time. It seems to be worse when it gets really cold and also when I get down to 1/4 of a tank or less.

Make no mistake; the Avensis is by no means a bad car. It has a five-year/100,0000-mile warranty, plenty of equipment, and it's generally comfortable to drive.

This the engine we now have in the new Avensis, BMW normally make very good engines. Unfortunatly the N47 wasn't one of them. Bet they were rubbing their hands all the way to the bank when they flogged them to Toyota. Here's hoping Toyota have done some re-engineering on the engines they bought. Quote.
Posted January 28, 2014. I bought Toyota Avensis 6 months ago. Previously it was serviced with 5W30 oil and there was oil consumption of 1L/1000miles. On my recent service I changed it to 15W40 because the owners manual allows it to -14 degree Celsius. Surprisingly the consumption dropped to 0.3L/1000miles.
The 2.2-litre diesel doesn't fare much worse, managing 147g/km and averaging 51.4mpg yet it will get to 60mph in just 8.6s. Refinement has long been an Avensis strong point and the third generation car rides very well with low wind, tyre, suspension and engine noise at typical motorway cruising speeds. Handling is safe rather than scintillating
